Heaven Is Where Peace Is
I was planted in front of the television close enough to do damage to my eyes but I didn’t want to miss a thing. I had never been that interested in politics, but there was something unusual about this guy. He didn’t seem to be real sure of himself, yet what he said seemed more sincere than the others. The more I listened to him, the more I realized I was fascinated by the fact that a peanut farmer from Georgia had the guts to challenge the top position in the world. I told Dona, “This guy is going to win the election.”

After he was in office, I made a point of reading his statements to the press. I tried never to miss his speeches on TV. I was impressed with the way he was dealing with issues. His all out effort toward world peace far surpassed his predecessors. But the harder he worked for peace, the worse things got, and I found myself feeling sorry for him. Then suddenly it happened. Someone had the audacity to take a group of people hostage in a foreign country. I think the whole world watched with bated breath to see what he would do. No matter what he did, it didn’t work.

My thoughts went back to the presidents of the United States that I have known in my short life span. Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford. They had all talked “peace.” Some of them had actually made efforts to achieve it, but in reality, they had all failed. I began to reflect on what I read so many times in the Bible.

“ And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Matthew 24:3. As I read again that whole chapter and the next, I got “goose bumps” all over me. Those disciples had no idea of what he was telling them. But we are living right “smack dab” in the middle of it! I turned quickly to 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3, because it is one of my favorite chapters on the subject.

“ But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”

With these thoughts on my mind, words started to come, and before the morning dawn came over the Eastern mountains, “Heaven Is Where Peace Is” was complete.

Lyrics:
All the peace this world can offer, can’t compare with what’s in store,
For the one whose long been waiting just to walk through Heaven’s door.
And all the riches of the kings of earth can never buy the peace of God,
It’s a gift to every sinner that’s covered by His blood.

Chorus:
Heaven is where peace is like no man’s ever known.
Heaven is where peace is flowing from God’s throne.
Oh what joy just to be there never more to roam!
Heaven is where peace is, and Heaven will be home.
Even though the Bible tells us peace on earth cannot be found,
There are those who still are searching, saying, “Peace will soon abound.”
But all the wisdom of the universe can never find the peace of God.
It’s a gift to every sinner that’s covered by His blood.
